Today we have been talking about Burns Night. The children have enjoyed learning about the famous poet and were able to tell me that a poet write rhymes. We discussed Scotland and where it is in relation to us, the children enjoyed being told about the Lochness Monster and painted their own versions of what they imagine them it to look like. The children enjoyed having a morning with lots of activities based on Burns Night and Scotland. They made collage flags, tartan patterns, wrote words related to the topic and had a go and colouring their own Robert Burns. The children really enjoyed doing some Scotish dancing too. When the children were told that Robert Burns father William had to pay for them to go to school, they were shocked. However, they were even more shocked to learn that they also paid extra money for a teacher to visit them at their own homes to have MORE learning. The children thought this was a silly idea!
