Welcome! My name is Jacky Sykes and I am the new Head of School at Bishops Itchington Primary. I have worked at the school for many years as a teacher and as the school's Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator so am well acquainted with the friendly community in Bishops Itchington. Our school is at the heart of the local community where every child is valued and nurtured by a caring and dedicated staff and we provide a safe and stimulating learning environment for our lovely children.
The school has recently joined the Stowe Valley Multi-Academy Trust, which has given our school access to shared resources, funding and support that is already benefitting our children and school community enormously.
Members of our local community are welcomed into the school regularly: plays, lunches, sharing assemblies, celebration assemblies and more. We also have a very active parent group who work so very hard with innovation to raise funds for our school. Friends of Bishops Itchington Primary School (FoBIPS) is not only a great asset to our school, it also supports our parents by involving them in school-life and integrates new-comers into our village.
We have a thriving before and after-school club called Buddies based at the school. This is run by experienced and passionate staff who make every session enjoyable and memorable. They are open for extensive hours either side of the school day enabling parents to work in the knowledge that their children are having a great time in a safe and secure place.
Our Ladybirds Nursery School provides excellent Early Years provision and many of the children transition into our popular Reception Class each year. The learning space is very impressive, providing a great environment for the children to play and explore.
We provide football and netball clubs after school and our teams compete against other schools. We also encourage our children to do cross country on Saturday mornings. Drama is run on a Wednesday after school and we have other clubs that run during lunchtimes (some by adults - for example Homework Club - and some by our Year 6 pupils such as Dance Club). The school is eager to promote pupils’ appreciation of art, music and culture. We regularly work with local artists to produce large scale pieces of art and the school has been commended for its extensive display of clay sculptures. We run residential visits in year 5/6 to an activity centre in Shropshire where children can undertake adventurous activities, including canoeing, abseiling, climbing and archery.
We had a school self-evaluation by an Ofsted Inspector on September 20th 2017. This found that the school had maintained its Good rating and reported, " Good teaching has been maintained and built upon since the last inspection." Our SATs results for year 6 in 2017 were well above average for reading, maths and grammar, spelling and punctuation.
We work hard to ensure that all our children can BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE and we celebrate all their achievements, together.
